A local street musician performing in the heart of downtown Ottawa was injured over the weekend following a sudden and unprovoked knife attack.
According to the Ottawa Police Service, the incident unfolded shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 15. The victim, Kevin Murison, was standing on the sidewalk playing the bagpipes along Wellington Street near Sussex Drive, close to the Fairmont Château Laurier, when he was abruptly approached by an unfamiliar individual.
Investigators state that the assailant launched into an unprovoked attack using an edged weapon, targeting the busker and resulting in minor injuries to his hand. Bystanders quickly intervened by calling 911 and rendering immediate assistance, with a passerby photographing the suspect's vehicle to help law enforcement track down the vehicle.
