A routine dinner run turned into an international security ordeal for professional golfer Si Woo Kim, who accidentally crossed the international border into Canada due to a navigation app error ahead of the PGA Tour event in Detroit.

The incident began when fellow pro Michael Kim invited Si Woo out for Korean barbecue. Looking to find the nearest location, Si Woo entered the restaurant's name into Google Maps. Seeing a seemingly short drive ahead of him, he jumped into his tournament courtesy car and hit the road, completely unaware that the application had routed him to a same-named establishment across the border.

The reality of the situation did not set in until Kim had paid a $9 toll and entered the tunnel leading out of Detroit.

"As soon as I get into the tunnel, oh, this is Canada," Kim recounted of the moment.

Carrying only his wallet and lacking a passport, Kim attempted to turn around. However, the one-way layout of the infrastructure and strict international border signage prevented any retreat, forcing him to continue straight to the checkpoint.

Approaching the inspection booth, Kim rolled down his window and explained the mistake to the border agent, stating he had simply intended to grab dinner. The situation escalated into a detailed security check as up to eight officers surrounded the vehicle, conducted a thorough search of the car, and questioned the golfer.

The tense encounter ultimately resolved with humor. When a border official playfully asked Kim if he was going to win the tournament that weekend, Kim fired back: "Only if you let me through."

Following a 90-minute delay at the border, the passport-free mix-up was cleared up, allowing Kim to re-enter the United States and finally make it to the correct local restaurant for his meal.
